Our Services

MEDICAL UNIT

One of our signature projects was night health service continued for several years uninterruptedly till 2014.One MBBS doctor ,a trained nurse and also a pharmacist would attend this centre and remain there for whole night for rendering emergency medical service to the needy patients.A small pharmacy was also there to provide required medicines.Unfortunately we could not continue this service due to paucity of funds.Donations/contribution from generous people or organisations is earnestly solicited for the revival of this humanitarian service. We have a car equipped properly for rendering medical services. The car was awarded to our society by Dr. Sujan Chakraborty, the then MP, Jadabpur Constituency, on 1st march 2009.

The Mobile Medical Service was started on 5th April 2009 with active participations and co-operation of different local clubs. It is rendering free medical service to poor people in rural areas of Sonarpur. The unit is manned by a Doctor, a Nurse, an Attendant and a Driver.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING

This institute was established under the management of STCSS, our mother organization, in 2005 with a number of useful vocational training courses viz. Footwear Training, Telephone & Mobile Set Repairing , Two & Three Wheeler Repairing, Basic Electronics, Food Processing, Soft Toy Making, Tailoring (Gents & Ladies), Beauty Culture etc. sponsored by both State and Central Governments. The Institute soon became popular among the unemployed youths of the districts and there was no dearth of adequate enrolment in the courses we conducted. Results of the examinations conducted by the Government agencies had always been excellent.

But unfortunately with the change of Govt. policy both at the Central and in the State, we could not continue all the courses mentioned above now. Presently we are conducting only one course viz. Telephone & Mobile Set repairing approved by the West Bengal State Council of Technical Education and Training. All the infrastructures and implements used for the above courses remain idle though.

SAMANNAY THEATRE

Samannay has been quite privileged to have a group of theatre lovers and seasoned theatre workers in its big home. They have a pulsating influence of those great legends of the Bengali stage, and that of Indian stage as well. Some among them thought of doing something on and off the stage for long. The thought finally converged into action when they formed “Samannay Theatre” in 2005 and began producing a series of short-play in a short span. Samannay made a real good impression on theatre lovers when they staged “Archimedes-er Mrityu” a short-play on the death of the great scientist, in 2006. Therafter, they had been quite consistent in producing well-orchestrated plays in the following years.

One of the most significant contributions of "Samannay Theatre" was a short-play "Shunore Naaiya Bandhu" based on the famous play "Chandbonik-er Paala" by Shambhu Mitra, which they presented at "Samannay Theatre Festival" in 2008. Another significant work was the full length play "Ghare Baaire" based on the famous novel of Tagore in 2011. It was a tribute paying effort on our part in the 150TH birth centenary of the poet.

Samannya Theatre also plays the very pivotal role in organizing a series of successful Theatre Festivals, successively in Sonarpur Book Fair for long. The group has, however, had its bad days. It could not move forward with regular shows due to financial stringency. We had even to refrain ourselves from making new play for almost five years. Eventually, our days dawned again in 2016; and we are back to stage. We cannot but express our gratefulness to the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for their generous grant towards producing our newest play "Saturday Evening". The play has already been staged on 30TH June at Tapan Thatre, Kolkata. The 2ND show has been scheduled on 23RD October in the same venue.

RELIEF WORKS

Relief Work We tried our best in doing something for at least some of the people attached badly with the devastating strong cyclone Yaas. We went to the village Kumirmari of Sundarban on 30th October 2020 and spent the day in dispensing garments and sanitizing products for the villagers, mainly for women and children. Another name of the menace was cyclone Amphan. All are aware about its destroying consequence. Samannay, In spite of having its limitation could not stay silent. We, mainly on the support and wishes of our friends and patrons, went all the way to the villages of Sonargaon & Bali in Sundarban and tried our best to stand by the people in distress. We, at least, could give them some garments and blankets.
